As the semester comes to a close, Governors State University’s Counseling and Wellness ACE Program is creating space for reflection, creativity and celebration through its final Wellness Wednesday event of the term.
On Wednesday, May 6, the Graduation Cap Decorating Workshop took place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in Room D1496. The event invited students, especially graduating seniors, to design and personalize their graduation caps while reflecting on their academic experiences, personal growth and future aspirations.
The workshop was more than just an arts-and-crafts session. It was designed to support student wellness by offering a relaxed, affirming environment where participants can unwind from end-of-semester stress while celebrating their accomplishments. Through creative expression, students were encouraged to tell their stories whether that includes overcoming challenges, building resilience or achieving long-term goals.
Organizers from the Counseling and Wellness ACE Program emphasize that the event aligned with their broader mission of promoting mental health, self-expression and community connection across campus. By combining creativity with emotional reflection, the session helped students transition from academic life to their next chapter with a sense of pride and closure.
Decorating materials, and light refreshments were provided, creating a welcoming and social atmosphere. The event also offered an opportunity for students to connect with peers, share experiences and build lasting memories as the academic year concludes.
As a symbolic highlight, decorated caps often feature meaningful messages, quotes or artwork like the phrase “And so the adventure begins” capturing the excitement and uncertainty that comes with graduation and new beginnings.
With commencement approaching, this Wellness Wednesday event served as both a celebration of achievement and a reminder of the support systems available to students throughout their journey at GovState.
