Governors State University hosted its 2026 Spring Career and Internship Fair on April 22 in the Hall of Governors, bringing together students and a diverse group of employers offering both full-time positions and internship opportunities.
Organized by Career Services, the event aimed to help students transition from academic life to professional careers by providing direct access to recruiters. Students attended dressed in professional attire, carrying multiple copies of their resumes and preparing brief introductions to make a strong first impression.
A wide range of organizations participated in the fair, including Bank of America, Illinois Department of Public Health, Silver Cross Hospital and City Year Chicago, offering opportunities across healthcare, finance, public service and business sectors. Recruiters provided information about available roles, hiring processes and the skills needed to succeed in their respective fields.
Throughout the event, students engaged in one-on-one conversations with employers, asking questions about qualifications, workplace expectations and career growth. Many also used the opportunity to build confidence in networking and professional communication, skills that are essential for career development.
One student, Maria Lopez, shared: ‘This event helped me understand what employers are really looking for and gave me confidence to present myself professionally.’”
Another student, James Carter, said: ‘Speaking directly with recruiters made a big difference. I learned about internship opportunities and how my skills match industry needs.’”
Career Services emphasized the importance of preparation, encouraging students to research organizations ahead of time, ask thoughtful questions and follow up after the event. The fair not only connected students with potential employers but also helped them better understand industry expectations and career pathways.
Overall, the Spring Career and Internship Fair served as a valuable opportunity for students to explore options, build professional connections and take meaningful steps toward their future careers.
