Governors State University’s College of Business hosted its AI Capstone Event on April 16 in Engbretson Hall as part of COB Business Week 2026, bringing together students, faculty and industry professionals to highlight innovation and real-world problem solving.
Held in Room B1200 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the event featured student capstone projects focused on artificial intelligence and its applications across business and healthcare sectors.
The event was structured into three rounds of panel evaluations. The first round included client panels, followed by a second round with management teams, and a final round dedicated to capstone evaluation. This format allowed students to present their work from multiple perspectives and receive comprehensive feedback.
Following the panel rounds, the event included an AI literacy session that emphasized the growing importance of understanding artificial intelligence in today’s workforce. The session provided attendees with insights into how AI is shaping industries and the skills needed to adapt to emerging technologies.
The program continued with presentations from capstone project teams, where students showcased their research, technical skills and practical solutions developed throughout their coursework.
The event was guided by Professor Robert Garcia, with industry clients including Dr. Jan Figa, Robert Stanley and Surya Kiran Vuppay, who contributed their expertise during the evaluation process.
One participant, Syed Fayez Ul Abidin Ahmed, shared: “Presenting in front of different panels helped us understand how our ideas translate into real-world business settings.”
Another participant, Siva Venkat Vinay Deep Korada, added: “The AI literacy session and feedback from clients made this experience both practical and insightful.”
Organized by the College of Business Dean’s Office, the AI Capstone Event highlighted the university’s commitment to experiential learning and preparing students for careers in a technology-driven world.
