Governors State University formally inducted the Upsilon Phi Delta (UPD) Class of 2026 during a ceremony held April 21 in the E-Lounge, recognizing students for their academic excellence and commitment to the healthcare field.
UPD is a national honor society dedicated to encouraging and recognizing outstanding scholarship in healthcare administration and health informatics. Membership is offered to students who demonstrate strong academic performance and a dedication to advancing healthcare systems and policy.
The ceremony began at 3 p.m., with inductees arriving earlier for a walkthrough to prepare for the formal proceedings. Faculty, family members and guests filled the E-Lounge, creating a celebratory and supportive atmosphere as students were honored for their achievements.
During the event, each inductee was formally recognized and presented with a certificate of membership, an official UPD pin and honor cords. These cords will be worn during commencement, symbolizing their academic distinction and membership in a nationally recognized honor society.
The program also included remarks highlighting the significance of leadership, service and continuous learning in healthcare. The ceremony emphasized not only academic success but also the responsibility students carry as future professionals in an evolving healthcare landscape.
“Being part of UPD is a meaningful recognition of the hard work and dedication throughout my academic journey,” said one inductee, Goutham Sai Kondeti.
“This achievement reminds me of the importance of perseverance and motivates me to continue growing both personally and professionally,” said another inductee, Gayathri Molakalapalli.
A personalized PowerPoint presentation was featured during the event, showcasing each inductee’s headshot along with an inspirational quote. The presentation reflected the diverse backgrounds, goals and motivations of the students, adding a personal element to the formal ceremony.
Following the induction, attendees gathered for a brief reception where students connected with faculty, peers and guests. The event concluded with a class photo, capturing the moment as the newly inducted members celebrated their accomplishments together.
The UPD induction ceremony marked an important milestone for the Class of 2026, recognizing not only their academic success but also their potential to contribute to the future of healthcare through leadership, innovation and service.
