Governors State University will host an exciting and forward-looking event, “The Quantum Frontier: Careers and Opportunities,” on Wednesday, April 15, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Hall of Honors. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to explore the rapidly evolving field of Quantum Information Science and Engineering (QISE) and gain insight into one of the most transformative technologies shaping the future.
The session will feature distinguished industry leaders, including Dr. Kayla Lee, Global Lead of Quantum Network & Programs at IBM Quantum, and Dr. Heejeong Jeong, head of Quantum Computing at Pasqal US. Both speakers bring extensive experience in advancing quantum technologies and translating complex research into practical, real-world applications.
Lee, who was recognized by MIT Technology Review as one of the “35 Innovators Under 35,” has worked with major global companies to explore quantum applications across industries such as healthcare, finance, and media. Jeong has built a distinguished career spanning academia and industry, contributing to cutting-edge developments at the intersection of physics and engineering.
During the event, attendees will learn how quantum computing is transforming critical fields including cryptography, artificial intelligence, materials science, optimization, and drug discovery. The session will also provide valuable guidance on the skills needed to enter the quantum field and the wide range of career opportunities available, from research and engineering roles to software development and business innovation.
In addition to gaining knowledge from leading experts, participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with professionals through an interactive discussion and networking session. This experience is designed to help attendees better understand the real-world impact of quantum technologies while building meaningful connections that can support their academic and professional journeys.
Open to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff from a variety of disciplines, the event reflects Governors State University’s ongoing commitment to preparing its community for future-focused careers. By connecting students with leaders in emerging technologies, the university continues to create pathways for innovation, exploration, and success in a rapidly changing world.
Students and interested participants are encouraged to register in advance to secure their spot for this unique opportunity to be part of the next quantum revolution.
