Governors State University hosted Glow & Grow: Self-Love Social, a Women’s History Month event focused on confidence, creativity and self-care, while raising funds for the Jaguar Drill Team.
Held March 24 from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Hall of Honors, the event brought together students for an evening centered on positivity and community connection. Attendees participated in DIY empowerment crafts, affirmation stations and interactive activities designed to encourage self-expression and personal growth. Music, snacks and themed photo opportunities added to the welcoming and uplifting atmosphere.
One organizer, Niyah Cannon, shared: “We wanted to create a space where people can feel confident, supported and reminded of their worth while also coming together for a good cause.”
Another organizer, Inala Bruce-Rose, added: “This event is about more than just self-care. It’s about building a community where everyone feels included and empowered.”
Students who attended also expressed their appreciation for the event. One participant said: “It’s really refreshing to have an event like this on campus where you can relax, be creative and just feel good about yourself.”
The event also served as a fundraiser, offering accessible entry options for students. Basic admission included crafts and snacks, while VIP access provided additional experiences such as printed photos and self-care gift bags.
Organizers emphasized that the event was open to all, reinforcing a message of inclusivity and support across campus. The initiative aimed to create a space where students could relax, connect and celebrate self-love during Women’s History Month.
Through a combination of creativity and community engagement, Glow & Grow highlighted the importance of empowerment while supporting student-led initiatives like the Jaguar Drill Team.
