Indiana South Bend 56, Governors State 47
The Governors State women’s basketball team dropped a hard-fought home game to Indiana South Bend, 56–47, in a defensive battle where the Jaguars couldn’t quite climb out of an early hole. Indiana South Bend controlled the first half, holding GovState to 15 total points through two quarters and taking a 29–15 lead into halftime.
The Jaguars responded with their best stretch after the break, putting up 21 points in the third quarter to make it a game, but the visitors steadied themselves late and closed it out in the fourth.
Davina Smith led GovState with 17 points, adding two assists, while Cencere McDaniel posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Off the bench, Peyton Greenwood and Gabrielle McClain provided a spark with seven points each, and Greenwood added two steals.
Governors State won the rebounding battle 40–35, but a tough night from the three-point arc and the free throw line made the comeback attempt difficult.
Governors State 69, Saint Xavier 61 (OT)
Governors State answered back with one of its grittiest wins of the season, taking down Saint Xavier 69–61 in overtime after a tight game that went down to the final possessions.
The Jaguars and Cougars traded runs throughout regulation, and after Saint Xavier forced overtime, GovState flipped the switch, outscoring the home team 10–2 in the extra period to pull away.
Kalvina Eubanks powered the Jaguars with 20 points and 11 rebounds while knocking down three threes. Davina Smith added 18 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, and went a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line in a 45-minute effort. Journae Cotton delivered 16 points and three steals, giving the Jaguars another steady option on both ends.
GovState also got efficient minutes from Izzy Agredano and Alexis Warren, helping the Jaguars win the glass and close the regular season with momentum.
Olivet Nazarene 82, Governors State 68
Governors State’s season came to an end in the playoffs against Olivet Nazarene, as the Jaguars fell 82–68 in their final game of the year.
GovState came out swinging early, scoring 43 first-half points to stay right there through two quarters, but Olivet Nazarene took control in the third and created the separation needed to finish the game off.
Alexis Warren was huge off the bench, scoring 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting while adding six rebounds. Gabrielle McClain filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, five assists, and two blocks, and Kalvina Eubanks nearly posted a triple-double with seven points, nine rebounds, and nine assists.
Even with GovState shooting over 53% from the field, turnovers became the difference against Olivet’s pressure, and the Jaguars’ playoff run ended there, but not without showing fight to the final buzzer.
