Governors State women’s indoor track & field delivered one of its strongest team efforts of the season, highlighted by a first-place finish in the 4×800 relay and multiple top-10 performances on the track. The Jaguars showed their identity clearly: strong distance running, gritty depth, and a relay group that can close.
The team’s signature moment came in the Women’s 4×800 Meter Relay, where the Jaguars won the event in 9:50.20, beating a quality field and taking the top spot outright. GovState also competed in the 4×400 relay, finishing 6th (4:38.58).
The Jaguars were consistently in the mix in the longer races. In the Women’s One Mile, Sophia Flowers delivered a standout run, taking 5th place in 5:12.80, and Governors State added more depth with Sydney Bonham (16th, 5:53.73), Ella Cornfield (20th, 6:11.57), and Paola Villasenor-Alcant (23rd, 6:47.40).
Flowers came right back in the 3000 Meter Run and placed 4th (10:27.47), while the Jaguars also got strong finishes from Kaylee O’Sullivan (9th, 10:50.29) and Yahaira Rodriguez (12th, 11:01.34).
In the 5000 Meter Run, Julie Macias led GovState with an 8th-place finish (19:49.40), with Ava Tomala (11th, 22:01.24) and Emilia Kadiyala (12th, 22:06.71) also completing the race for the Jaguars.
On the track, GovState picked up sprint and quarter-mile efforts from Trinity Bonham, who ran 29.26 in the 200 prelims and placed 16th in the 400 (1:07.62), while Daija Brown recorded 29.52 in the 200 prelims. In the 1000 meters, GovState also had Allison Sadus (14th, 3:43.85) and Jinni Jimenez (15th, 3:54.91).
In the field events, Trenyce Bonner delivered a strong jump in the Triple Jump, taking 3rd place (35-3.23 / 10.75m) to add a podium finish for the Jaguars.

Next up is NAIA Nationals Day 1 of 3 on Thursday, March 5, in Gainesville, Florida. With a relay title already secured and multiple runners proving they can place in the top group, Governors State heads into nationals with confidence and the kind of momentum that can turn into something special on the season’s biggest weekend.
