The GovState Food Pantry sponsored Feed the Future, Honor the Past on Feb.19 as an incentive to bring students together to support food accessibility efforts on campus.
Hosted by the Kaleidoscope Community Service Counciland held in Room B1242, the initiative focused on ensuring that essential resources remain available for students in need.
Volunteers assisted with unloading food deliveries, sorting and organizing donated items, and restocking pantry shelves. The coordinated effort highlighted the behind-the-scenes work required to keep the Food Pantry prepared to serve members of the GovState community.
The event was organized with guidance from Austin Danielle, Coordinator of Civic Engagement and Intercultural Education in the Center for Student Engagement and Leadership. Their leadership helped create a structured and collaborative environment for volunteers, allowing operations to run efficiently throughout the event.
Participants noted the sense of community fostered by the volunteer effort. Shimha, a student volunteer, shared her perspective on the importance of service: “When we support each other like this, it shows that our campus truly cares. Even small contributions can have a big impact.”
Overall, Feed the Future, Honor the Past addressed immediate food security needs while reinforcing the role of leadership, service, and student involvement within the Governors State University community.
