The Governors State men’s volleyball team opened its home slate Saturday afternoon with a competitive four-set battle against Grand View, showing flashes of offensive efficiency and resilience despite falling short in the final result.

The Jaguars pushed the Vikings throughout the afternoon, with three of the four sets decided by just two points or fewer. Governors State opened strong offensively, hitting .333 in the opening set before narrowly dropping it 25-23. The Jaguars responded in the second set, matching Grand View point-for-point before securing a 25-22 win to even the match.
Grand View gained momentum in the third set, capitalizing on a highly efficient attacking performance to take control before edging out a tight fourth set to close the match.
Diego Antunez led the Jaguars with 15 kills while hitting .323, providing a consistent offensive presence from the outside. Daniel Lopez added 12 kills and two service aces, while Pablo Pascual contributed nine kills. Brandon Palmeros chipped in seven kills and six digs, and Ean Schultz delivered an efficient performance at the net, recording three kills on four attempts along with three blocks.
Governors State finished the match with 49 kills and matched Grand View with 32 digs, but the Vikings’ .339 team hitting percentage proved to be the difference in key stretches.
