The Governors State men’s track and field team delivered a well-rounded performance at the Walter Cramer Indoor Meet, combining strong distance results with standout efforts in the field events and one of the larger athlete contingents in the competition.
The Jaguars were led on the track by Devon Hayes, who finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.31, marking one of the team’s top results of the day. In the mile, GovState placed four runners inside the top 11, Daniel Zavala (7th), Samuel Rocio (8th), Branden DeLeon (10th), and Parker Griffin (11th), giving the Jaguars one of the strongest group finishes in the event and demonstrating significant depth in the distance squad.
That depth continued in the 3000 meters, where Alex Ortiz (8th) and Elija Jones (9th) both earned top-10 finishes, with additional Jaguars placing throughout the field. The number of Jaguar athletes competing across the distance events stood out compared to many other schools, allowing the team to consistently appear across multiple heats and finals.
In the field events, the Jaguars delivered some of their highest finishes of the meet. Steven Sesson cleared 2.03 meters to place second in the high jump, while Clark Fremouw won third-place in the shot put with a throw of 15.2 meters. Jonathan Brooks added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump, rounding out a strong showing in the jumping and throwing events.
Sprint groups also contributed to the team’s overall effort, with multiple Jaguars competing in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes, further highlighting the team’s depth and participation across event groups.
With strong individual finishes, multiple top-10 performances, and one of the more heavily represented rosters at the meet, Governors State continued to show progress heading into the next stage of the indoor season.
