On Tuesday, Feb. 10, students gathered for a Student Success Initiative meeting focused on building and recognizing healthy relationships. As Valentine’s Week brought extra attention to dating and partnerships across campus, the session encouraged students to look beyond celebration and reflect on what truly defines respect, trust, and emotional well-being in their connections with others.
The workshop began with a presentation on dating, where the students talked about common green flags and red flags in relationships. Topics included communication, honesty, boundaries, and mutual support, along with warning signs such as manipulation or lack of respect. The program helped students better understand how small behaviors can shape long-term relationship outcomes.
One of the highlights of the session was an interactive card game designed to spark conversation. Each card featured a question about dating scenarios, expectations, or personal values, such as how to handle disagreements or what qualities matter most in a partner. Students took turns picking cards, responding openly, and sharing their perspectives with the group. This activity encouraged everyone to participate, speak their minds, and learn from one another’s experiences.
The lively discussion created a comfortable and supportive environment, with laughter mixed with thoughtful reflection. By combining education with engagement, the meeting emphasized that healthy relationships require communication, empathy, and self-awareness. Overall, the session reinforced the university’s commitment to student success both inside and outside the classroom.
