The Student Activities Council (SAC) at Governors State University shared early plans for Spring Fest 2026 during its Feb. 5 E-Board meeting, outlining a week-long series of events designed to boost student engagement ahead of finals.
Spring Fest is scheduled for April 20–25 and will include a mix of music, games, themed events, and student-led activities across campus. SAC members emphasized that the goal is to create a relaxed but energetic atmosphere where students can connect outside of the classroom.
“This is really about giving students something to look forward to toward the end of the semester,” one SAC member said during the meeting. “Spring Fest is a morale boost before finals hit.”
According to the proposed schedule, the week will kick off Monday with “GovStatechella,” a music and activities event hosted in the Hall of Honors, followed by themed events such as Boots & Blooms, Jaguar Spring Fling, and White Lies & Spring Vibes. Additional highlights include a campus cookout, fashion-focused programming like Golden Hour: The Fit Check, and a Jaguar Field Day.
Midweek events include a Tiny Classroom Concert Talent Show and Roar Fest, which is expected to feature carnival-style attractions like bumper cars and games. A 3-on-3 basketball tournament is also planned for later in the week.
Students at the meeting shared ideas to make Spring Fest more interactive, including hands-on experiences and creative programming. One student suggested incorporating animal-assisted or wellness-based activities, noting that unique events could draw more interest.
“I think students want things that feel different,” a student said. “If it’s interactive or unexpected, people are more likely to show up.”
SAC members also discussed the importance of promotion, noting that word-of-mouth and classroom announcements often work better than crowded bulletin boards.
“Sometimes there are so many flyers that people don’t even stop to read them,” a student attendee said. “Hearing about events directly from classmates or professors really makes a difference.”
Final details for Spring Fest will continue to be refined as the semester progresses, with SAC encouraging students to attend meetings and share ideas.
