Governors State University is set to become a focal point for student-led technology this week as the Library Innovation Hub hosts its “Meet, Greet & Innovate” kickoff event. Scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 4, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., the gathering serves as an official introduction to a new student organization dedicated to hands-on engineering and digital design. The event is designed to bridge the gap between creative imagination and technical execution, welcoming students from all academic backgrounds to explore the resources available on campus.
The afternoon will feature a series of live demonstrations highlighting the capabilities of 3D printing and scanning technology. Participants will gain insight into the process of transforming digital concepts into physical objects, providing a foundational understanding for those interested in custom manufacturing. Additionally, the event will showcase presentations on robotics, aimed at inspiring future collaborative projects where students can learn to build and program their own machines.
By fostering a community of makers, the club aims to empower students to move from spectators to creators. Organizers emphasize that the Innovation Hub is a space for everyone, regardless of prior technical experience, to experiment with new tools and collaborate on multidisciplinary projects. This introductory meeting marks the beginning of a semester-long mission to turn the library into a vibrant center for student innovation and technical skill-building.
