The Innovation Club continued its momentum this semester with an engaging and highly practical 3D Printer and Scanner Training Session held on Nov. 17 from 3–4 p.m. As part of the club’s ongoing series of technology-focused workshops, the event welcomed both new and returning members eager to expand their skills in digital fabrication.
Under the guidance of Prof. Andrius Tamulis, participants received a clear introduction to the fundamentals of 3D printing, 3D scanning, and model development. The session highlighted OpenSCAD, a script-based, open-source platform known for its precision and flexibility. Students explored how to generate geometric shapes, adjust design parameters, and prepare finished models for printing.
The training also featured an informative presentation by Sai Sindhu Tumukunta and Danush Shiva Udaiyar, who demonstrated scanning workflows, model optimization, and examples of real-world applications of 3D fabrication. Their detailed walk-through provided students of all backgrounds with an accessible understanding of how digital models transition from concept to physical output.
The session was further enriched by the presence of several faculty members who attended in support of the club’s academic and creative mission. Dr. Heng Li, Dr. Jianwei Hao, and Dr. Lixin Qi were among the faculty present, demonstrating strong cross-departmental encouragement for student innovation and experiential learning.
The club advisor, Shukmei Oh, continues to play an essential role in supporting the Innovation Club’s mission. Her guidance, encouragement, and commitment to fostering a creative, student-centered environment have helped the club expand its programming and offer more opportunities for hands-on learning. Her involvement remains central to the club’s growth and ongoing success.
In addition to the event’s instructional content, the Innovation Club announced its upcoming schedule for the spring semester. Meetings and workshops will be held every Wednesday from 1:30–3:30 p.m., providing students with ongoing opportunities to deepen their technical skills, collaborate on projects, and explore new technologies.
This training session reaffirmed the Innovation Club’s dedication to promoting creativity, problem-solving, and innovation across campus. Students from all majors and experience levels are encouraged to join future sessions and take advantage of the club’s expanding resources.
For updates on upcoming Innovation Club activities, students can follow weekly campus announcements and club communications.
