Although the semester is nearing an end, the Center for Performing Arts is still busy. Here are the remaining events this semester:
On Saturday, Nov. 22, “Night Moves,” an audio and visual experience of “Star Trek,” “E.T.,” and “The Planets” by Gustav Holst will be presented by the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra. Along with orchestral audio, there will be visuals by Adrian Wyard to accompany the experience. Tickets begin at $50, and the show starts at 3 p.m.
On Dec. 6, Ruth Page’s “The Nutcracker” will be performed at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. It will be presented again on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 – $65. Children and students’ tickets are $20, but seats must be reserved. “The Nutcracker” is a classic winter story about a young girl named Clara with mystical elements of forests, soldiers, princes, snow, and mice. To accompany the show, there will also be a tea party, “Clara’s Tea Party,” from 3-4:30 p.m. in Engbretson Hall. The event is limited to 75 guests. Tickets are $30 for children and $50 for adults. The event includes crafts, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and food, as well as an opportunity to meet cast members from the show. The Southland College Prep Choir is also performing live at this time in the Hall of Governors, which is free to attend.
To end the semester, “It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play,” will be performed on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 dollars, and $10 for children and students. This is a radio play complete with actors and sound effects, centered around the idea of community and the holidays.
