Governors State wrapped up its conference championship meet with standout efforts from both the men’s and women’s squads, highlighted by multiple top-10 finishes, significant personal bests, and one of the strongest collective performances of the fall. The Jaguars finished third on the men’s side and second on the women’s side, marking a successful end to the 2025 season.
GovState’s men placed third overall with 368 points, finishing behind St. Francis and Olivet Nazarene while placing ahead of St. Ambrose, St. Xavier, Judson, Trinity Christian, Viterbo, and Indiana Northwest.
The Jaguars relied on depth and consistency throughout their lineup, led by:
- Evan Stacy — 29:12.44
- Ryan Gayton — 29:13.14
- Antoine Morgan — 30:27.32
- Mason Reyes — 32:15.06
- Harold Hunley III — 35:16.97
- Abdel Bernal — 35:31.63
- Colin Zeman — 37:10.88
Stacy and Gayton finished within one second of each other to pace the team, followed by Morgan’s strong top-80 showing. Reyes, Hunley, and Bernal helped solidify GovState’s third-place finish by closing out the scoring pack, and Zeman rounded out the top seven.
GovState outperformed five conference opponents to secure the podium finish, wrapping the season with one of the team’s most complete races.
On the women’s side, GovState delivered one of its best postseason performances in program history, finishing second overall with 257 points behind only Olivet Nazarene.
Freshman Sophia Flowers led the way with a second-place overall finish in 22:14.22, earning the highest individual placing of her debut season as the Jaguars then packed three athletes into the top 10:
- Flowers — 22:14.22 (2nd)
- Krysta Stanko — 23:03.68 (8th)
- Avery Kittl — 23:08.27 (10th)
- Morgan Pieczynski — 24:01.34 (20th)
- Camila Mendez — 24:12.17 (22nd)
Stanko and Kittl joined Flowers inside the top 10, giving GovState one of the most potent lead trios in the field. Pieczynski and Mendez both finished within the top 25 to close out the scoring and secure the runner-up result.
Depth played a significant role, as GovState placed more than a dozen runners inside the top 75, including strong finishes from Yahaira Rodriguez (25th), Sydney Bonham (35th), Sophie Hummitsch (37th), Kaylee O’Sullivan (38th), and a tight underclassmen group between places 64–75.
With a third-place men’s finish and a second-place women’s finish, GovState leaves the championship meet with momentum and evident progress. Behind impactful performances from veterans and rising contributions from underclassmen, both teams closed the season with results that reflect the program’s depth and development.
