The College of Arts and Sciences’ Center for Community Media (CCM) invites you to an inspiring afternoon celebrating innovation, storytelling, and academic creativity at the Media Research Institute (MRI) Celebration & Discussion on Monday, Nov. 10, 1:30 to 3 p.m. in Engbretson Hall.
This annual event highlights the work of Governors State faculty and staff who use media as a powerful tool for education, community engagement, and social awareness. Attendees will enjoy a special screening of last year’s MRI Fellowship projects, followed by an introduction to the new 2025–26 MRI Fellows.

Short Classroom Videos — Drs. Eliot Fackler, Kerri Morris, and Bradley Smith (CAS) share their collaborative series on strategies for student success, featuring Gov State students in action.
️ “Beyond Words” Podcast — Dr. Maria Valgoi (CEHD) explores the emotional impact of second hand trauma in helping professions, featuring conversations with Gov State faculty and community voices.
After the screenings, meet this year’s MRI Fellows — Drs. Giesela Grumbach (CHHS) and Jelena Radovic Fanta (CAS) — as they introduce their upcoming projects and discuss their creative process. The conversation will be moderated by Julie Keck, Director of CCM.
