Governors State women’s basketball opened its 2025–26 campaign with a thrilling 67–66 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene (OH) inside the Athletics and Recreation Center. The Jaguars rallied from an early deficit and held firm down the stretch to secure their first win of the season.
Senior forward Cencere McDaniel led the Jaguars with a dominant double-double, posting 26 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 9-for-24 from the field. Graduate guard Davina Smith followed with 21 points and two assists, converting all nine of her free-throw attempts in clutch moments. Izzy Agredano added 11 points and three rebounds, and Alexis Warren chipped in nine points with six boards. The team shot 40.7 percent from the floor and 75.9 percent from the line while winning the rebounding battle, 44–37.
After falling behind 15–12 in the opening quarter, GovState exploded for 28 points in the second to take a 12-point halftime lead. Mount Vernon surged back in the third and kept the game within one possession late, but the Jaguars’ defense and composure at the line sealed the narrow win.
