Grace (IN) 105, Governors State 90
GovState tipped off its 2025–26 season on the road with a strong offensive showing but ultimately fell to Grace College, 105–90, in a high-tempo season opener.
Javon Johnson led all scorers with 27 points on 11-for-16 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, sparking the Jaguars’ offense throughout both halves. GovState trailed 51–38 at halftime but clawed back in the second half, scoring 52 points on 52% shooting. The Jaguars hit eight threes overall and forced 11 steals, showing flashes of the high-energy pace that defined their preseason.
Grace countered with a balanced attack led by Gavin Betten (19 points, 10 rebounds) and Tyler Raasch (15 points), shooting nearly 60% from the field as a team.
While the Jaguars couldn’t overcome Grace’s size and efficiency inside, the opener showcased GovState’s depth—11 players contributed points, and the bench produced more than 40 total.
