Josiah Scott and Chris Greer of Dr. Patrick Santoro’s Performance Art class created a clever work of art called “Chance,” which provides audiences the opportunity to reflect on their lives, and the role chance literally plays in our everyday actions.
Upon reading their Artist Statement, one can reflect on the risk and reward associated with opportunity. Does one decide to stay in place, or take that leap of faith? This is how “Chance” challenges its audience.
Their idea to incorporate cards into their installation was genius. This can be a reminder to audience members that it’s entirely possible to be dealt bad cards in life. However, “Chance” can show you how, with faith, you can rearrange those cards to play out in your favor.
The saying “play the game” comes to mind for audiences. Without risk, there is no reward. Why not take a risk to further yourself, or to be happy? The choice is gracefully yours.
Scott and Greer’s installation reflects the brilliant minds of Performance Art. In the upcoming weeks there will be a few more installations. Until then, observe, and take in “Chance.”
