Successful Week for Men’s Golf as Domke Sets School Record
The GSU golf program saw a lot of action this week, wrapping up in a record-setting fashion.
The men’s golf team opened up the week on April 12, competing at the Judson invitational. GSU placed 9th out of 17 teams, led by Casey Domke’s 74. He was followed by Carter LeRoy with 84, Kevin Kompier with 85, and Patrick Guilfoyle with 86.
The team competed in the St. Francis Spring Invitational the next day, placing 9th out of 11 teams. The team was led once again by Domke with a 75, followed by LeRoy with an 81. Akim Bizati recorded an 83 and Kompier came in with an 87.
Their week continued with a match play against Chicago State University on April 16. The team lost 4-1.
The team found their rhythm on April 17 as they picked up tournament play once again at the Blue Boy Invitational in Jacksonville, IL. Domke shot a five-under 67 on the first day of tournament play, setting the school record. He wrapped up on Sunday with a one-under 71, giving him a two-round score of 138. This score broke yet another school record. Domke was medalist of the invitational.
Domke wasn’t the only one breaking records this past weekend. LeRoy also set a personal-record round of 74. His two-round score of 155 secured him 11th place.
Domke’s 138 and LeRoy’s 155 were joined by Patrick Guilfoyle’s 159 (80, 79) and Bizati’s 164 (81, 83) for a team score of 616. The team placed 2nd of 6.
To wrap up the week, Domke was named the CCAC Golfer of the Week. He is the first male golfer at GSU to receive this award.
The women’s golf team had a slower week, competing in the Judson Invitational on April 13. Due to a lack of numbers, GSU was not able to record a team score. However, Sedona Smith and Macie Jansen competed as individuals. Smith recorded 104 and Jansen recorded 124.
The women will compete in the CACC conference tournament on April 22-23. The men’s tournament will take place on April 26-27.
