GSU Soccer Teams Have Another Successful Week: Sports Recap, March 8-14
The men’s soccer team continued to play strong this week with two wins and a draw. On March 10, the team tied 2-2 with St. Francis following two overtimes. Dylan Swearengen and Andy Latorre scored for the Jaguars. On March 13, the team shut out Judson by a final score of 3-0. Two goals came from Hamzat Sanni, and Juan Manuel-Rodriguez scored once. Goalkeepers Luiz Ramirez and Drew Seyden contributed to the shutout with 5 and 2 saves respectively. The team remains undefeated in conference, boasting a 3-0-1 CACC record.
Ramirez made additional news this week, as he was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week. The senior goalkeeper from Peru has contributed significantly to the team’s successes so far this season, and the recognition was well-deserved.
The women’s soccer team also had a fine week, winning two of their three games. They opened the week on March 9, with a 3-2 defeat over St. Francis. Avery Damjanovic led the team with two goals, followed by Zoie Langlois with one. The team took a 3-2 loss to Olivet Nazarene on March 11. Damjanovic put in both goals for the Jaguars. Goalkeeper Eden Suda had an impressive 12 saves. The team wrapped up their week with a 2-0 defeat over Judson on March 13. Damjanovic again led the team, scoring both goals. This game was the first shutout in the program’s history.
The women’s volleyball team played just one game this week, losing all three sets against St. Francis (25-18, 25-22, 25-15). Ashley Harwood led the team with eight kills, followed by Ivana Novakovic with seven. Yareli Pacheco had 14 assists and nine digs.
