Jaguars continued play this week as the men’s and women’s soccer teams, and the women’s volleyball team all saw some action. 

GSU’s men’s soccer team came out strong on Tuesday with a 5-0 defeat over Olivet Nazarene. Impressively, five different Jaguars contributed to this final score; Efrain Davila, Andy Latorre, Eric Espinoza, Hamzat Sanni, and Hussein Ninalowo each scored one for the Jaguars. On Saturday, the men defeated Holy Cross College, in a final score of 1-0. Agustin Vivas scored off an assist sent from Andy Torre, while goalkeeper Luis Ramirez kept the team going with five saves. The team’s record is now 2-2 (2-0 CACC).  

The women’s soccer team hit the field once this week, competing against Holy Cross College on Saturday, March 6. The team lost against the Crusaders 4-1. Avery Damjanovic scored the Jaguars’ goal, leading the team with two shots on goal. GSU goalkeepers Eden Suda and Gaby Smola made eight and three saves respectively. The team’s record is 0-2 (0-2 CACC).  

The women’s volleyball team opened up their week with a loss to Judson University. The team lost three of four sets (25-19, 25-15, 23-25, 25-12). Dunja Tatic had a team-high 18 digs. Tatic and Ashley Jackson had nine kills each. The team also lost to St. Xavier at home, winning just one of four sets (24-26, 25-14, 25-16, 25-19). Tatic and Jackson again led the team with 12 and 10 kills respectively. Ivana Novakovic followed with nine. The team’s record is now 3-9 (2-7 CACC), and they sit in 12th place in the conference. The ladies will have to rally in their final nine games if they are to qualify for the CACC tournament; only the top eight teams enter the conference tournament.
