Governors State men’s soccer fell 6–0 to Olivet Nazarene (IL) on Saturday in Bourbonnais, as the Tigers’ attack proved difficult to contain in a physical CCAC matchup.
Olivet jumped ahead early with three first-half goals in the opening 20 minutes, capitalizing on quick passing combinations and steady pressure in the final third. Despite several defensive stops from goalkeeper Matias Gallego, who tallied three saves on nine shots faced, the Jaguars couldn’t slow the Tigers’ pace of play.
GovState tightened defensively after the break but still found themselves under heavy attack as Olivet added three more goals in the second half to close out the match. Midfielder Joan Gallardo led GovState with two of the team’s three shots, while Geoffroy Agbokou added another attempt from distance.
The Jaguars showed fight late, but a red card to Jericho Navarro in the 85th minute cut their numbers short, making it difficult to regain momentum.
Gallego’s composure and the defensive efforts of Zaid Sibaai and Ler Bwe, each booked with cautions while challenging Olivet’s front line, stood out in an otherwise tough road result.
GovState looks to regroup and refocus as they prepare to host Viterbo on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Sportsplex in Crown Point, Ind., to continue conference play and hopes of bouncing back at home.
