Governors State fell 3–0 to conference-leading Holy Cross on Tuesday despite generating multiple scoring opportunities and a strong first-half defensive stand.
The match remained scoreless through halftime thanks to a sharp performance from keeper Matias Gallego, who recorded five saves. In the second half, the Saints broke through with three goals between the 52nd and 65th minutes, pulling away despite 22 total shots from GovState.
The Jaguars’ offense was led by Tyler Diewert, Marton Borombos, and Jose Antonio, each forcing quality chances on target, while Geoffroy Agbokou and Tom Klinnert added pressure from midfield. Isaias Rubio earned the shutout for Holy Cross with ten saves.
The Jags move to 2-10-1 (1-3-1 CCAC) and will aim to regroup this weekend when they travel to Olivet Nazarene on Saturday, Oct. 11, for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Bourbonnais.
