Governors State volleyball wrapped up a two-match stretch this week with a road test at St. Francis, followed by a home win over St. Ambrose.
On Tuesday in Joliet, the Jaguars pushed St. Francis to the brink in the final two frames but dropped a 3–0 decision (25–19, 25–23, 27–25). GovState’s attack picked up steam as the night went on, capped by a .222 hitting clip in the third set, but the Saints held firm in the extra points to close it out.
Junior outside hitter Greta Bochert paced the offense with 13 kills and added three blocks for a 15-point night. Delia MacDonald was efficient in the middle with eight kills on a .318 percentage while also contributing three blocks. Setter Alexah Martinez directed the attack with 22 assists and chipped in three aces. Defensively, Trenyce Bonner tallied a team-high 12 digs alongside seven kills, and libero Alejandra Maldonado steadied the back row with nine digs.
GovState regrouped on Thursday back at the ARC, where they outlasted St. Ambrose in four sets (25–20, 22–25, 25–22, 25–22). The Jaguars leaned on balance and a clutch finish to earn their third CCAC win of the season.
Bonner powered the attack with 14 kills and 16 digs, while Jennifer Barwicka turned in one of her best nights of the year, hitting an eye-popping .688 with 11 kills and six total blocks. MacDonald (six kills, four blocks) and Joharis Castillo (11 kills) added strong contributions at the net, while Martinez kept the offense in rhythm with 46 assists.
The Jaguars (4–14, 3–3 CCAC) now turn their focus to Saturday’s neutral-site matchup against nationally ranked Lindsey Wilson in St. Louis, a noon start that will test their momentum heading into the back half of the season.
