The Governors State University men’s and women’s track and field teams continued their outdoor campaign with three recent meets that showcased emerging talent and point-scoring potential across events.
ONU Outdoor Open — April 26, 2025
At the ONU Outdoor Open, GovState athletes earned top-10 finishes and sharpened their performances ahead of conference championships.
Men’s Highlights:
- Colin O’Brien led in the 3000m steeplechase, placing 3rd in 10:09.61.
- Daniel Zavala secured 5th in the 10,000m (32:58.28).
- In field events, Sean O’Brien took 7th in the javelin (44.45m), and Clark Fremouw placed 8th in discus (38.78m).
Women’s Highlights:
- Krysta Stanko finished 4th in the 5000m (18:27.66), with Kaylee O’Sullivan placing 5th (18:51.62).
- Morgan Pieczynski hit 7th in the javelin (23.74m).
- Sydney Bonham recorded a top-10 finish in the 800m (2:34.65).
CCAC Outdoor Championships — May 2–3, 2025
While competing at the conference championships in Joliet, GovState’s teams finished 4th (men) and 6th (women), improving team scoring compared to previous outings.

Standout Men’s Performances:
- Daniel Zavala clocked 31:38.78 to place 4th in the 10,000m.
- Omar Mohamed finished 9th in the 5000m (15:49.18).
- Colin O’Brien earned 6 points with a 3rd-place steeplechase (10:02.95).
- The men’s 4x800m relay team (Ward, Almarales, Mohamed, O’Brien) took 5th in 8:20.04.
- Clark Fremouw earned 2 points in the hammer throw (46.63m).
- Sean O’Brien placed 8th in the javelin with 43.96m.
Key Women’s Contributions:
- Krysta Stanko placed 4th in the 5000m (18:14.67), and Kaylee O’Sullivan was 8th (19:01.50).
- Avery Kittl earned 8 points with a 2nd place in the 10,000m (40:37.61), followed by Morgan Pieczynski (4th, 42:05.68) and Emilia Kadiyala (7th, 42:42.58).
- The women’s 4x800m team took 2nd with 9:45.49.
- Bonham (800m) and Hummitsch (1500m) both finished in the top 10.
- Morgan Pieczynski led javelin efforts (11th, 24.22m), backed by Sierra Houts and Addison Prokop.

The Jaguars will close their season at the St. Francis Fighting Chance Invite in Joliet. Hosted at Joliet Memorial Stadium, this two-day meet (May 9–10) offers one final opportunity for GovState athletes to hit NAIA qualifying marks and cap off their 2025 outdoor campaign with personal bests.
