Governors State University hosted an Open Mic Night on Tuesday, April 15, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., in Room D1496. Organized by Reconstructed, the event offered students and community members a relaxed platform to share original writing, music, and spoken word.
The gathering encouraged creativity and connection, drawing a supportive crowd that embraced the diversity of talent on display.
Students performed a range of pieces from original poems and short stories to rap songs and acoustic guitar sets. Some participants shared personal stories they had written, while others performed songs with lyrics they composed themselves.
The event also featured moments of live music, adding to the collaborative and engaging atmosphere.
Students expressed appreciation not only for the chance to perform but also for the opportunity to connect with peers through art.
The open mic served as an opportunity for students to engage with peers outside the classroom and connect through shared interests in writing and storytelling.
Reconstructed successfully delivered an event that highlighted student creativity and fostered connection across campus. The Open Mic Night emphasized the value of sharing ideas in a supportive setting and reflected GovState’s continued commitment to student engagement and the arts.
