The Governors State men’s volleyball team stayed red-hot over the weekend, picking up back-to-back wins at McHie Arena in Bourbonnais, including a milestone moment for senior standout Pedro Castillo, who notched his 2,000th career kill in the team’s second match of the day.
GovState opened the doubleheader with a sweep of Viterbo (25-13, 27-25, 25-17), showcasing sharp offensive efficiency and a balanced attack. The Jaguars hit .577 in the opening set, with Daniel Lopez tallying 13 kills on the match and Diego Antunez adding 11 at a blistering .625 clip. Castillo chipped in 7 kills and 33 assists in the win but was only getting started.
In the later match against CCAC rival Olivet Nazarene, Castillo delivered a signature performance: 20 kills, 5 assists, and 2 aces, to help power the Jaguars past the Tigers in four sets (25-22, 18-25, 25-16, 25-18). His 20th kill of the match also marked the 2,000th of his career, cementing his legacy as one of the most prolific attackers in program history.
Lopez followed with another strong outing, racking up 14 kills and 11 digs, while Lucas Lapa anchored the offense with 37 assists, and Thiago Neves contributed 3 service aces. GovState hit .256 as a team across four sets and controlled the net with six total team blocks.
The two wins push Governors State to 22-6 overall and build momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
GovState returns to action on Saturday, April 12, traveling to Judson University for a 1 p.m. matchup at Lindner Fitness Center in Elgin. The contest will also serve as Senior Night for the Eagles.
