Governors State University exploded with color as students, faculty, and staff came together to celebrate Holi, the Festival of Colors, on March 27, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the soccer field beside Prairie Place transformed into a vibrant festival ground filled with colors, music, dance, and an atmosphere of pure joy.
Holi, known as the Festival of Colors, is a vibrant celebration that marks the triumph of good over evil and the arrival of the new season. It is a time for people to come together and embrace the spirit of togetherness.
Laughter and excitement filled the air as participants joyfully smeared each other with bright colors, symbolizing love, unity. Bollywood music set the tone for an afternoon of lively dancing while the delicious aroma of traditional Indian treats added to the warm, festive vibe.
Special thanks went out to Dr. Sonia Dalmia, Dean, College of Business; Dr. Jan Figa, Director of Library Services; Dr. Ujvala Rajadhyaksha, Associate Dean, College of Business; Dr. Robert Morley, Director, Office of International services; Andrew Pitts, Associate Director of International Services; and Adjunct Professor Woodman Taylor for joining us in the celebration and continuously supporting the cultural events. Their presence added to the event’s significance, reflecting the university’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and multicultural engagement.
The celebration came together through the collaboration of the International Culture Organization (ICO) and the GovState Indian Club (GIC).

The Student Activities Council (SAC) provided white T-shirts, allowing everyone to fully enjoy the vibrant spirit of Holi. It was a great day of celebration, bringing the GovState community together to share in the joy of this colorful tradition.
