Governors State University’s Innovation Club is preparing for its highly anticipated Bridge Building Competition, scheduled for Monday, March 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Innovation Hub in the GovState Library. The event invites students to apply their engineering and creative skills to design and build bridges that will be tested for strength and efficiency.
On March 3, participants attended an instructional workshop where they gained the knowledge, materials, and strategies necessary for constructing their bridges.
This workshop served as an essential preparatory session, giving students a deeper understanding of key engineering concepts such as structural integrity and design efficiency.
The workshop was led by Professor Oh Shukmei, faculty advisor for the Innovation Club, along with Brett Porter, vice president of the club and K. Kumar, club treasurer. The team provided valuable insights into the bridge construction techniques and ensured that all participants were familiar with the official competition guidelines.
The session emphasized hands-on learning, with students actively engaging in interactive demonstrations and discussions on building stable and efficient bridges. Participants had the chance to experiment with various materials, ask questions, and receive feedback, which helped refine their skills and strategies ahead of the competition.
As the competition draws near, students are fully prepared and equipped with the practical knowledge and experience required to showcase their engineering creativity.
All participants will receive a certificate of participation, further recognizing their effort and involvement in the event.
