Governors State University students will have the opportunity to make a difference outside of the classroom over Spring Break.
From March 17 to March 21, GSU’s Alternative Spring Break program will take a group of committed student volunteers to New Orleans to serve local communities through hands-on service projects. The ASB program encourages and invites students to invest their breaks in service learning and civic engagement.
Past ASB trips have included rebuilding homes, working in food banks, and supporting environmental sustainability efforts. This year, participants will have the opportunity to help communities in need and create valuable experiences while making a tangible difference.
Students interested in attending the ASB trip are encouraged to attend one of the following information sessions to hear about the experience and expectations of the participants: Session 1: Feb. 5 at 1 p.m., Room D1496; Session 2: Feb. 10 at 6 p.m., Zoom – Registration required
Early sign-up via Jaguar Connection is encouraged due to space limitation.
As explained by a representative of the Center for Civic Engagement at GSU, “The trip is not only about volunteer work, but also about building leadership skills and engaging with different communities through a spirit of service.” Students interested in learning more about the Alternative Spring Break should visit govst.edu/jaguarconnection or email [email protected] and call 708-235-7362.
