On Jan. 27, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issued a memo temporarily pausing federal financial assistance programs, raising concerns among students nationwide. However, as confirmed by the U.S. Department of Education, the pause did not impact financial aid received directly by individuals, including Title IV and HEA funds.
For Governors State University (GSU) students, this means financial aid disbursements for the Spring 2025 semester remained uninterrupted. Grants, scholarships, and loans were processed as scheduled, ensuring that students relying on these funds could continue their education without disruption.
The initial announcement caused uncertainty, with students worried about potential delays in receiving aid. However, GSU’s financial aid office reassured students that their awards would be disbursed as usual. On Jan. 29, the OMB officially rescinded the pause, eliminating any lingering doubts about financial aid availability for the remainder of the semester.
“We understand that any news about financial aid can be concerning, and we want to assure our students that their funding remains secure,” said Zion Banks, Director of Communications/Public Information Officer at GSU. “All grants and aid will continue to be awarded and disbursed as expected.”
Students who rely on federal assistance can rest assured that their tuition payments, living expenses, and other educational costs will not be affected this semester. GSU officials encourage students to stay informed about financial aid updates through official university channels and the U.S. Department of Education’s announcements.
