On Nov. 14, Governors State University’s men’s soccer team captured the CCAC championship, defeating Trinity Christian College 2-0 in front of a packed stadium.
The Jaguars showcased their skill, determination, and unwavering teamwork, earning them the title they’ve worked for all season. The game remained scoreless through the first half, with both teams battling hard on the pitch. In the second half Governors State found their breakthrough. In the 79th minute, Flavio Di Palma delivered the game’s first goal with a clinical finish, assisted by John Gonzalez. This goal was the turning point, lifting the energy on the field and in the stands. Just minutes later, in the 85th minute, Di Palma struck again, this time assisted by Diego Camarena, securing the Jaguars’ lead and the championship.
Di Palma’s two-goal performance was the game’s highlight, but the entire Governors State lineup deserves credit. Their defense, led by standout efforts from goalie Marcal Salom Chandre, kept Trinity Christian scoreless, with Chandre playing all 90 minutes and making crucial saves when needed.
The Jaguars end their season with an impressive 15-2-4 record, remaining undefeated in conference play (11-0-2). This victory marks a historic moment for Governors State, reflecting the team’s commitment and the spirit of their fans and supporters.
