Governors State men’s soccer team continued their unbeaten conference run with a solid 3-0 victory over St. Ambrose, delivering a strong second-half performance to secure the win. After a scoreless first half, GovState found their rhythm, scoring three times to seal the game.
The breakthrough came in the 52nd minute when forward Andrea Croce capitalized on an opportunity and scored unassisted, putting the Jaguars on the scoreboard. St. Ambrose worked hard to respond, but the GovState defense held firm, with goalkeeper Marcal Salom Chandre and defenders Flavio Di Palma and Alexander Judd ensuring a clean sheet.
Governors State doubled their lead in the 77th minute when Joan Gallardo, assisted by Rafael Silverio, sent the ball past St. Ambrose’s goalkeeper. With momentum on their side, the Jaguars continued to press, and in the 90th minute, Croce scored his second goal, this time assisted by Diego Camarena, to make it 3-0.
Seven yellow cards were issued for Governors State during the game, highlighting the physical intensity on the field. Yellow cards were issued to Di Palma, Silverio, and others for their commitment to breaking up St. Ambrose’s attacks.
With this win, Governors State improved to 12-2-4 overall and 8-0-2 in conference play. Their defensive and offensive strength was fully displayed, keeping their undefeated conference streak intact. Governors State now looks forward to this Thursday’s match in the CCAC Post-Season Tournament Quarterfinals, where they’ll aim to carry forward their winning form and make a deep run in the tournament.
