The Governors State Jaguars men’s soccer team secured a 2-0 victory in a dominant performance against St. Xavier, continuing their strong season. The Jaguars wasted no time, with their first goal coming just 4 minutes and 34 seconds into the match. Andrea Croce found the back of the net after Raul Garcia and Diego Camarena assisted, giving the Jaguars an early lead. Just three minutes later, Rafael Silverio doubled the score, finishing a well-timed pass from Croce and the rest of the team. With a commanding two-goal lead, the Jaguars held control throughout the game.
Defensively, the Jaguars were equally impressive, keeping St. Xavier at bay. Goalkeeper Marcal Salom Chandre was outstanding, recording seven saves and earning a clean sheet. His efforts and a disciplined backline ensured that the Jaguars maintained their lead and secured the shutout. Salom Chandre’s performance was crucial, as he made several key stops, especially in the second half when St. Xavier increased the pressure.
Offensively, GovState kept St. Xavier’s defense on its toes, registering 20 shots total, with 10 on goal. Croce and Silverio led the charge, with Croce taking six shots and scoring once, while Silverio took five shots and also found the net. Midfielders Jero Bencomo and Luis Escalante added to the attack, contributing shots on goal, while the team worked cohesively, tallying four assists across both goals.
With this victory, the Jaguars remain a formidable force and will look to carry their momentum into their next match on Oct. 30 against Indiana Northwest. The team’s blend of attacking prowess and defensive solidity has been vital to its success, and it will aim to keep this winning streak alive.
