The Governors State Jaguars men’s soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against Viterbo University on Oct. 16. The Jaguars got off to a strong start, with midfielder Joan Gallardo finding the back of the net in the 34th minute, assisted by John Gonzalez. Gallardo’s goal gave Governors State the early lead, but the Jaguars could not hold onto it, as Viterbo equalized in the second half.
Viterbo’s Nicolas Lopez scored the tying goal in the 57th minute, slipping past the Jaguars’ defense with an unassisted strike. Despite several attempts from both sides, neither team could break the deadlock in regulation or extra time.
GSU created several offensive opportunities, registering 13 total shots, five of which were on target. Gallardo’s goal stood out as the lone scoring effort for the Jaguars, while Javier Losa and Rafael Silverio added key shots on goal. Defensively, Marcal Salom Chandre was crucial for the Jaguars, making five saves across 100 minutes to keep the game level.
