The Governors State women’s volleyball team fought vigorously but ultimately fell 3-1 to the University of St. Francis on Oct. 12. The Jaguars showed promise throughout the match, taking one set but struggling to maintain momentum. Offensive leaders included Jennifer Barwicka, who led with 12 kills and a .200 hitting percentage, and Delia MacDonald, who contributed 10 kills with a solid .176 hitting percentage. The Jaguars could not overcome St. Francis’ powerful attack despite their efforts.
Defensively, Cheyenne Joachim and Jocelyn Boop were key, with Joachim registering 17 digs and Boop adding 9. The team combined for 97 digs overall, showcasing their ability to defend against tough offensive plays. However, a hitting percentage of just .116 across the match kept the Jaguars from capitalizing on their defensive stands.
The Jaguars bounced back dominantly, sweeping Indiana University South Bend 3-0 on Oct. 17. Joharis Castillo had an impressive performance, leading the offense with 9 kills, a .400 hitting percentage, and 4 aces, energizing the team’s overall efficiency. Cheyenne Joachim once again came through with 12 kills, and Delia MacDonald added 8 kills and 3 blocks to help control the net. The Jaguars collectively hit .252, marking one of the season’s most efficient attacking performances.
Governors State’s defense remained solid, with standout contributions from Yareli Pacheco, who tallied 9 digs and assisted 31 times. The team’s balanced attack and strong serving game (4 total aces) proved to be the key in shutting down Indiana South Bend, securing a much-needed victory to end the week on a high note.
