The Governors State University women’s soccer team took on a tough Olivet Nazarene squad but fell short in a 4-1 loss. Despite a late push, the Jaguars couldn’t recover from a dominant performance by the Tigers, who scored three second-half goals to secure the victory.
Olivet Nazarene opened the scoring in the 30th minute, with Skylar Bos finding the back of the net unassisted. The Tigers extended their lead early in the second half with two quick goals, including another from Bos, to make it 3-0. Melea Miller capped off the scoring for Olivet, netting her second of the game in the 52nd minute, giving the Tigers a 4-0 advantage before the Jaguars responded as Morgan Bean put the Jaguars on the scoreboard in the 76th minute to reach the final score of 4-1.
For the Jaguars, in addition to Bean’s goal, Grace McLaughlin created a few offensive opportunities, finishing with three shots and two on goal. In goal, Valentina Jimenez made a valiant effort with 14 saves, facing 18 shots on goal in total.
The Jaguars will look to regroup as they head into their next matchup, hoping to bounce back after a tough loss. With a strong defensive showing from Jimenez and an emerging attack led by Bean, GSU is eager to turn things around in their upcoming game against Missouri Baptist on Oct. 3.
