GSU has officially launched Radio Jaguar, an internet station designed to serve the GSU and Southland communities with a diverse range of content, including music, news, and podcasts.
Radio Jaguar is broadcasting and available to GSU students, faculty, staff, and alums, as well as community members who have completed a Radio Staff Training Workshop. This workshop is a prerequisite for those seeking on-air opportunities, regardless of their field of study. The station will be student-run, providing hands-on experience in radio programming, production, and management.
The radio show application process is the first step towards hosting a show on Radio Jaguar. Applicants are required to provide basic information about themselves and the proposed program. Successful applicants will then proceed to MST 4050 to learn the fundamentals of radio production and programming.
More information about participation can be found on the Radio Jaguar webpage.
Radio Jaguar’s programming will include music, news, and podcast-style shows, offering a wide array of content for listeners. At the launch event, the station’s faculty advisor, Dr. Lara Hrycaj, emphasized the inclusive nature of the platform, welcoming all members of the GSU community to participate. She also said that the station could go silent intermittently as the learning process develops.
“This is part of the growing pains of starting something new and from scratch,” said Hrycaj. “Things will not be perfect, and we will have bugs, but things will improve as we figure things out, fix the bugs, and grow. Things might be up and down for the next week or so, but keep checking back!”
