Paying homage to the Black scholars who have come before us is an important feat the Governor’s State community is committed to. Upon walking up to the Black Hall of Fame, you are reminded of the accomplishments the Black community has achieved in recent history. What makes the IBHOF special is that many of these honorees are from the Chicagoland community.

The hall was launched in 2021 by U.S. Congressman and IBHOF Honorary Chair Danny Davis. The goal is to promote African American culture and excellence through education.
Some notable honorees are Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Dorothy R. Leavell, and Dr. Willie Wilson. The IBHOF also has a Black Women of First Distinction Class celebrating the accomplishments of Debbie Meyers Martin, and Tracey Bell. Continuing the tradition of shining light on the community’s accolades encourages future generations to persevere through hard times.

Currently, nominations are open for the Illinois Black Hall of Fame class of 2024. Nominations will be open until December 15th. Below a link is provided to IBHOF’s website where you can find more information, and the 2024 nomination form.
