In a heartfelt message to the university community, Governors State University President Cheryl Green announced a temporary change in leadership, effective Oct. 30, due to a personal health issue that requires immediate attention.
In a campus-wide email, Green expressed gratitude for the support she received and emphasized the importance of taking time off to focus on wellness.
“I have received many kind messages of support as I have navigated this challenge,” said Green. “Thank you to all who have extended your warm wishes and kept me in your thoughts and prayers. You have been a source of great comfort.”
The president appointed Dr. Corey Bradford, the current Vice President of Administration and Finance, to step into the role of acting president during the interim period. Bradford brings an extensive background in higher education, with over three decades of experience, more than ten of which have been at the executive leadership level. His appointment as president at his previous institution followed a rigorous national search, underscoring his qualifications for this temporary role.
The president expressed complete confidence in Bradford’s ability to carry out her responsibilities during this period.
