Construction of the new GSU radio station has begun. A broadcast booth has been assembled on the balcony by the library, and the rest of the pieces will be installed soon.

The radio station, part of the Student Media Institute section of the Center for Community Media, will be run by students and faculty. The Student Media Institute includes this student news site, GSUTV, and the future Radio station that is coming soon.

“I am very happy to see the radio station becoming a reality,” said Assistant Professor of Media Studies Lara Hrycaj. “The radio broadcast booth being built and located on the Library balcony in the center of the campus will generate lots of curiosity and excitement for the future radio station at GSU.” 

According to the station’s webpage, “GSU Radio will be an internet station streaming music, news, and podcasts serving the GSU and Southland communities. This student-run station will provide real-world experience and training in radio programming, production, and management for students and provide programming for and by the GSU community.”

With plans to launch in the Fall of 2023, the broadcast booth is the first part of the GSU radio station to be assembled. The Phoenix was told that there are many things happening behind the scenes to get the new program running. 

The station is open to all Governors State University community members. Students and other members of the GSU community will need to complete a radio workshop to participate.
