The Governors State Women’s volleyball team suffered a tough loss to IU Northwest on Sept. 6, in what became the longest match in school history – 2 hours and 32 minutes.

The Jaguars rallied from two sets down to force a fifth and deciding set before falling just short,  25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 23-25, 15-9, marking one of the most thrilling first home openers at the Athletics and Receation Center.

“We’re getting better and better by the day and will certainly benefit from such a competitive match,” said GSU Head Coach Pete Gonzalez. “I’m proud of how we battled… This was only our second match of the season.”

Dunja Tatic, senior at GSU blasted 28 kills and gathered 20 digs, the second-best performance in team history. Ivana Novakovic struck for 13 kills and 19 digs. Julia Reyes led the team with 23, a career-high for the senior. GSU finished with a 106-104 edge in that category.

The next home game for the girls volleyball will be Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. when the Jaguars face the Roosevelt Lakers.
