Men’s Soccer Team posts two wins: Sports Recap, March 15-21
It was a slow week for the Jaguars, with just two wins in all six competitions.
The week opened with a win as the men’s soccer team defeated St. Ambrose by a final score of 2-1. Dylan Swearengen and Agustin Vivas each put one in the net for the Jaguars, assisted by Juan Rodriguez and Marc Fernandez respectively.
The men closed their week with a 3-2 win over Lincoln College, which was secured in double overtime. Hamzat Sanni and Dylan Swearengen scored the first two goals for the Jaguars, but it was Andy Latorre who carried the team to a win, scoring a goal with 2:22 left in the second overtime. After the win over Lincoln, the Jaguars now lead the conference. Their record sits at 5-2-1 (5-0-1 CACC).
The women’s soccer team also saw some action this week, playing one match on March 17. They were shut out by St. Ambrose in a final score of 5-0. St. Ambrose was led by senior Morgan Wahlen, who was able to put in four goals. The team’s record is now 2-4 (2-4 CACC).
The women’s volleyball team competed in three games this week and were defeated all three times. They lost to Trinity Christian in three sets (25-16, 25-19, 25-13). Dunja Tatic led the team with seven kills, while Ashley Harwood reached 100 for the season.
The team lost again two days later to Lincoln College, winning just two of five sets (12-25,17-25, 25-18, 25-20,16-14). Tatic again led the way, this time with 20 kills. She was followed by Harwood with 12. The team played once more on March 20, taking another loss to Indiana-South Bend (25-18,25-22,25-12). However, it was a good night for Tatic, who recorded her 1000th kill as a Jaguar and the first in program history to do so. The team’s record is now 3-13 (2-11 CACC).
GSU will welcome one more sport into the mix next week, as the men’s and women’s golf teams will see action at the Olivet Nazarene Spring Invitational.
