Spring brings a pair of new events hosted by the Center for Performing Arts. 

GSU Dance Company Presents “From Tina to Beyonce: 50 Years of Female Empowerment.” The program premiered on March 11 and will be streaming until April 7. Ticket prices are $25/$15/$5. The CPA said: “We Believe the Arts Should be Accessible to All. Please Pay What You Can.” 

The GSU Dance Company pays homage to strong, empowered, fearless women who have laid the groundwork and inspired generations of women to stand up for what they believe, live their lives unapologetically, and ultimately be the change they would like to see in the world, according to the CPA. 

Guest and student choreographers explore the themes of struggle, empowerment, healing, rebirth and resiliency all set to the backdrop of music by Beyoncé, Tina Turner, Lizzo, Ariana Grande, and more. 

Choreography is by Tyra Barnes, Tammi Bolden, Roy’el Hill, Izy Hollingsworth-Sons, Megan Lindsay, Nadia Ouessenko, Autumn J. Price, Kristianna Russell & Janae Russell, and Sadee Wuethrich”

The program “Sweet Home Chicago Blues: Celebrating 50 Years of Alligator Records,” opened on March 13 and will be streaming until April 11. Tickets are $50/$35/$25. 

“Sweet Home Chicago Blues will feature internationally renowned vocalist Shemekia Copeland, slide guitar master Lil’ Ed Williams, beloved Chicago blues guitarist and songwriter Toronzo Cannon and legendary harmonica player Billy Branch with his all-star band, The Sons Of Blues. The Sons of Blues will serve as house band for the show, backing each of the headliners.”
