The Weekly Sports Recap: Feb. 1-7

The Jaguars continue to see more action as more sports are added to the spring schedule. The women’s basketball, men’s basketball, and women’s volleyball teams competed across state lines last week. 

 

The basketball Lady Jaguars spent a lot of time on the road, playing three away games. On the first night of the month, the Jaguars defeated the Olivet Nazarene Tigers in a fierce battle with an ending score of 82-81. Tabetha Jones came off the bench ready to play, finishing the game as the team’s leading scorer with 17 points and nine assists. Angelique Cowan also put up 13 for the Jaguars. On February 3rd, they faced the St. Francis Fighting Saints in another close game, with an ending score of 51-49. Amber Brooks made 5 of 6 field goals, had two steals, and led the team with six rebounds. The Lady Jaguars played again on Saturday. They were defeated by Cardinal Stritch University 68-62. Their record is 5-9 (4-4). 

 

The men’s basketball team also spent significant time on the road, competing in two away games. On Feb. 3, the Jaguars defeated St. Francis 77-73. Gerald Duckworth sank 7 of 8 field goals, while DeAndrey Robinson contributed with 12 rebounds. The Jaguars also defeated Cardinal Stritch University by a final score of 72-54. Travis Hogan led the way with 21 points, followed by Duckworth with 13. The team’s record is now 6-8 (4-2). 

 

The women’s volleyball team competed against Cardinal Stritch University on Feb. 2. The team lost all three matches (25-23, 25-13, 25-16). Dunja Tatic recorded 10 kills, and Yareli Pacheco had eight digs. The team’s record is now 2-2 (1-1). In other news, Dunja Tatic and Jamie Skvarla were announced as Attacker of the Week and Setter of the Week respectively. This recognition was awarded by the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Congratulations ladies!
