An Adventure with RJ at C2E2
I had an adventure at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) this year.
C2E2 is a comic con. No, it isn’t just about the comic books being sold there. It is about having fun in the process of meeting celebrities and artists. The cast of Critical Role, the famous livestreamed show featuring several voice actors playing Dungeons and Dragons, came back this year. I was able to meet Travis Willingham. He is a voice actor and actor in his own nature. He starred in the film The Phoenix Incident alongside Troy Baker, who has been featured before in my Retro Replay article published in volume 21 issue 3 and of The Phoenix. Willingham was a nice guy to talk to. I was able to joke around with him saying “How did you survive the explosion in that movie?” At first he didn’t get it but then I explained I am talking to him in person. I was able to take a selfie alongside him and smile in my cosplay.
The cosplaying was especially fun this year. As usual, I cosplayed as Leon S. Kennedy from the hit video game Resident Evil, with a remake of the third entry in the series coming out this year. There were many cosplays this year for C2E2. I saw Albert Weskers, Spider Mans, Star Lords, and Iron Mans.
I was also able to meet my favorite Final Fantasy character’s voice actor this year. His name was Ray Chase. He voiced Prince Noctis in Final Fantasy XV. He was able to spot my cosplay as Leon from a mile away. We talked about our favorite Final Fantasy games. I told him, “Tidus was my favorite character before yours.” Chase looked up and said, “You actually pronounced Tidus correctly.” I never knew that there were many sayings for the video game character himself. I took a selfie with Chase as well. He was one of the nicest voice actors I have ever met in my life. Chase also did a sample voice of Noctis and my friend’s favorite anime character.
I also had a professional photo with Willingham taken by Epic Photo Ops. The photo was an amazing experience. As soon as I saw Willingham again I said, “Nice to see you again.” Willingham responded, “Hey bro.” The photo ops are a once-in-a-lifetime event at a convention like this.
Check out the next C2E2 on March 26-28 2021.
