The Internet is full of shows on YouTube.  The shows on YouTube feature a YouTube star. There is one show out there that does not. That show is titled Retro Replay.

Retro Replay is a show that takes the viewers back to the days when arcade machines were around.  The hosts of this show are voice actors Nolan North and Troy Baker. Both of them have amazing work in their fields. The two play all these types of retro video games from Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker to Mike Tyson’s Punch Out. According to Baker, “We start at 12:00 PM to shoot the show.” Baker and Nolan wanted to create something for people to watch. According to North, “ We went to conventions, but we had separate things.” Both North and Baker had panels at different conventions. Retro Replay has over 24 episodes, with more coming out.  The channel has over 80,000 subscribers within the 4 months they have started. The show has a following that no one expected.  According to North and Baker, “Every moment is pure.” They don’t have a script, and the mean almost everything is improvised.  Sometimes they use the forbidden cheat codes. According to North, “ Codes for Unlimited Lives.” Those are the only cheats they use. Altered Beasts is one of the games that they used the cheat codes on. Overall, Baker and North have fun making this show.

Troy Baker is a voice actor/ music artist. Baker is a member of the Silent Hill Band and has an album titled Sitting in the Fire. Baker has voiced characters such as: Sam Drake from Uncharted 4, Booker DeWitt from Bioshock Infinite, Jake Muller from Resident Evil 6, James Sutherland from Silent Hill 2 HD Remastered, and Joel from The Last of Us.  Baker has played most of these games from his childhood. Baker said, “The memories come back so quickly.” He already has some experience and shares it with North. With Baker’s experience, he is able to help North with some of the games. According to Baker,” The system varies when I played these games.” When Baker was younger, he would go over to a friend’s house just to play video games.

Nolan North is a successful actor/voice actor.  North is known for voicing: Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series, Desmond Miles from Assassin’s Creed, Dr. Edward Richtofen from Call of Duty Nazi Zombies, and Deadpool from Marvel Vs. Capcom 3/Deadpool the video game. He is known as Uncle Noly. Uncle Noly is what North and Drew came up with for a banner. The banner reads “Uncle Noly Knows Best.”  North has almost no experience when it comes to these games. On the first episode, North and Baker played Spider Man for the Atari 2600. According to North,” I never found the term rage quit till that game. The struggle was real.”  North has fun seeing these games for the first time and always has a smile on his face. Sometimes now and again, North would make up songs for some games. The biggest one would be Burger Time. According to North,” They are called Blurby Jingles.” These jingles are hilarious to hear.

I am a watcher of this show as well. I found it while looking up retro videogames on YouTube. When I watched it the first time, I thought it was the best show on YouTube. I have never seen this much comedy put into a show with two voice actors. In fact, North and Baker are my favorite voice actors in video games.  Watching this show made me want to play these video games. I went to an arcade and played Burger Time because of this show.  My best friend Joe and I played Gauntlet because of this show. The games shown make a lot of people play these games.  The editing team for that show does an amazing job on it. The best editing scene I thought was when North sneezed and a scene from Terminator 2 Judgment Day played.

I personally want to thank Nolan North and Troy Baker. I was able to interview them for this article.  North and Baker were fun to talk to and I had a lot of laughs doing this interview. In my life, I have never had this much fun doing an interview. North and Baker have a message for the students of Governor’s State University. North and Baker said, “You guys are the reason why we play these games. You guys are the future.”
